Terms of Use
Welcome to Moviemash ("Moviemash," "we," "our," or "us"). These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your access to and use of moviemash.app and related services (the "Service").
Moviemash is currently in beta, and features may change. By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Service.
Description of Service
Moviemash is a movie-tracking service that lets you:
- Search and browse movie information;
- Log movies you've watched and rate them 1–5 stars;
- Add an optional short written reaction to a watched movie;
- Maintain a watchlist with interest levels (must-see / curious / maybe);
- Pair with one other person and share your library with them; and
- Send movie suggestions (with an optional note) to your paired partner.
We may modify, improve, suspend, or discontinue portions of the Service at any time, particularly while the Service is in beta.
Eligibility
You must be at least 13 years old (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction) to use the Service. By using Moviemash, you represent that you meet the applicable age requirements and have the legal capacity to enter into these Terms.
User Accounts
You agree to provide accurate and complete information when creating an account and to keep it current.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials, all activity under your account, and promptly notifying us of any unauthorized access or security breach.
You sign in either with Google or with a one-time code sent to your email address. If you sign in with Google, you authorize us to receive your name, email address, and a unique account identifier from Google, consistent with your Google privacy settings. We never receive your Google password.
You may request deletion of your account at any time by contacting us (see Section 15). We will delete or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where retention is required for legal, security, fraud-prevention, backup, or operational purposes. (Self-serve account deletion is planned.)
Pairing and Shared Libraries
Moviemash lets you pair with one other person. Pairing is mutual: once you pair, you and your partner can each see the other's full library — the movies you've logged as watched, your star ratings and written reactions, your watchlist and interest levels, and the associated dates.
There are no per-item privacy controls, so pairing shares your library as a whole rather than selected parts. You can unpair at any time in Settings to stop sharing. It's worth keeping this in mind when you decide what to log.
Moviemash is not responsible for how a partner uses information you share by pairing.
Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Violate any applicable law or regulation;
- Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the Service or other accounts;
- Interfere with the operation or security of the Service;
- Use bots, scrapers, crawlers, or automated tools without written permission;
- Upload malicious software or harmful code;
- Impersonate another person or entity;
- Harass, threaten, or abuse other users; or
- Use the Service for fraudulent or unlawful purposes.
We reserve the right to investigate and take appropriate action against violations of these Terms.
User Content
You retain ownership of the content you create — your ratings, written reactions, watchlist interest levels, and suggestion notes ("User Content").
By submitting User Content, you grant Moviemash a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, and display that content solely as needed to operate and improve the Service — for example, to show your library to you and to a partner you have paired with.
You represent that you own or have the necessary rights to your User Content, and that it does not violate any law or third-party rights. We may remove User Content that violates these Terms.
Intellectual Property
The Service, including its software, design, branding, logos, graphics, and functionality, is owned by Moviemash and protected by intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, reverse engineer, or create derivative works from any part of the Service without our prior written consent.
Movie information, images, posters, metadata, cast information, and related content are supplied by third-party providers, including The Movie Database (TMDB). Such content remains the property of its respective owners. Moviemash uses the TMDB API but is not endorsed or certified by TMDB.
Suspension and Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms, if we believe your activities pose a security risk, if we are required to do so by law, or if continued access could harm the Service or other users. Termination may result in loss of access to your account and associated content.
Disclaimer of Warranties
THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MOVIEMASH DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, SECURE, OR FREE FROM HARMFUL COMPONENTS.
Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, MOVIEMASH AND ITS OPERATORS SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES ARISING FROM OR RELATED TO YOUR USE OF THE SERVICE. OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO THE SERVICE SHALL NOT EXCEED ONE HUNDRED U.S. DOLLARS ($100) OR THE AMOUNT YOU PAID TO US DURING THE PRECEDING TWELVE MONTHS, WHICHEVER IS GREATER.
Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Moviemash and its operators from any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, and expenses arising from your use of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your infringement of any third-party rights.
Privacy
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your information.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will provide notice through the Service, by email, or through other reasonable means before the updated Terms become effective. Continued use of the Service after the effective date constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
Governing Law
These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of California, United States, without regard to conflict-of-law principles. Any disputes arising under these Terms shall be resolved exclusively in the state or federal courts located in California. Nothing in these Terms removes any mandatory consumer-protection rights you may have under the laws of your place of residence.
